Team Leader - Manufacturing

General Summary: The Carousel Department is machining operation that produces castings for circulator pumps. The successful leader of this department will manage the day to day operation and drive improvements in productivity, delivery and 5S. In addition, the successful leader will improve the area by organizing and creating clean standards. Mechanical ability is required for this position.



Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Observe Team Members work methods to assure compliance with work instructions
  2. Coordinate training and cross training, ensuring needed skills and competencies are captured and employed
  3. Assist APU Leader with Staffing
  4. Assist with problem solving regarding accidents or near misses
  5. Inspect work area for potential safety hazards or problems, assist in the resolution of safety and ergonomic issues.
  6. Train Team members regarding proper work procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, proper safety and Lock-out procedures and good ergonomic practices
  7. Escalate issues with upstream and downstream processes
  8. Actively drives quality standards by verifying standard work processes on a daily basis.
  9. Accurately and promptly identifies, contains and escalates processes that may lead to scrap.
  10. Report operating status and conditions (breakdowns)
  11. Post information on DAM boards
  12. Actively participates in the MRB process and disposition of materials.
  13. Actively track OPR, TPM, daily PMs, 5S, Safety & Quality.
  14. Actively ensures continuous flow within the production line, identifying bottlenecks and implementing countermeasures to meet KPIs and the daily build plan.
  15. Effectively motivates individuals and facilitates positive team dynamics
  16. Identify processes to increase productivity within the department.
  17. Inspect area in accordance with 5S principles
  18. Monitor daily equipment PMs.
  19. Communicate production requirements and assist team to achieve goal.
  20. Complete SAP transactions
  21. Hands-on production to cover for absences or short staffing with the remaining time applied towards Team Lead duties.
  22. Possesses and utilizes effective functional and technical skills of a manufacturing technician



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A desire to be in a leadership role and accept the responsibilities of meeting production goals.
  • Possess a demonstrated ability to work within a team.
  • Understand and demonstrate a proactive safety approach.
  • Possess good problem solving skills with limited supervision.
  • Proven ability to direct, train, and give guidance on the operation of machinery and processes.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.



Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma preferred, plus 1 - 2 years’ production experience.
  • Familiar with CNC operations of similar machinery
  • Mechanical aptitude required
