Logistics Manager

General Summary:

The Logistics Manager is a key position in the Material Management function at the Grundfos Indianapolis plant. The Logistics Manager is fully responsible for all goods movement and warehousing in the plant, from goods receiving through to shipping of finished products, including inbound & outbound traffic and trade compliance. The position will be overall responsible for leading a function of 25 employees including 3 supervisors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure best practice warehousing and physical flow processes are developed, described and fully deployed.
  • Lead and develop employees in the Logistics function to ensure that service levels to both internal and external customers are met.
  • Organize the goods receiving and warehousing in a structure that enables incoming goods to be received and moved into a pick-able location in a timely manner, as well as supporting efficient and timely picking of goods for both production and shipping.
  • Manage inventory accuracy through highly trained employees following a well described governance structure for how goods are received, moved, stored and picked.
  • Optimize physical flow and warehousing of goods to minimize the handling and movement of goods.
  • Implement point of use stocking and flow to line principles where possible.
  • Ensure efficient pick, pack and loading of finished product, enabling on time customer delivery.
  • Ensure that work instructions related to environmental health, safety and quality procedures are by all employees.
  • Facilitate alignment between production execution plan and logistic activities.
  • Continuously monitor & improve the performance indicators that have been set for the logistics function.  
  • Domestic and international traffic.
  • Trade compliance for both import and export.
  • Work with Group Operational Excellence to ensure Group processes and Standards are followed.
  • Improving process flows using technology and Lean principles


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven strong leadership skills.
  • Great collaborating skills with a strong will to create customer satisfaction.
  • Analytical mindset with great organizing skills.
  • Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Proficient in SAP (SD, MM and WM module).
  • In-depth understanding of warehousing and distribution processes.
  • Warehouse Management Experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Trade Compliance experience incl. Export Control (Preferred)
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of scheduling inbound / outbound traffic.


Education and Experience:

  • BS in Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • 5 years’ experience in the field of logistics and warehouse management in a production environment.
  • 3 years’ leadership experience.
